Cyanotypes are made using blue photo chemicals exposed to sunlight or UV rays, traditionally using a photo negative or photograms such as leaves and flowers to make an imprint. This series is an experimentation with the material using ice cubes as photograms in some and then painting and dripping in others. Both techniques are using more water than typically advised, giving them a drippy and freeform look. Some have acrylic paint and bleach layered in to make more of a "cyanotype painting." The overuse of water or melting ice is a meditation on the environment and rising sea levels. In these works we see glaciers, coral, seaweed, and ocean landscapes.
